Donor Spotlight: John E. Smith

A big shout out to John E. Smith, a regular donor to the Immokalee Fair Housing Association.

A resident of the Pelican Bay in Naples, John initially learned about Immokalee Fair Housing Association from one of our board members, Betty Mangos. She acquainted him with the living situation for farmworkers and other low-income families in Immokalee.

“The conditions were atrocious, and the rent they were paying was outlandish,” said John. He was particularly drawn to Immokalee Fair Housing Association because it helps people in need who are working, and the affordable rent helps them avoid debt.

John has been effectively serving his communities in many ways over the years. For example, while living in Atlanta, he served as Chairman the Board of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, and the Hal and John Smith Family Foundation, Inc. provided funds for a chapel at “Y” Camp, High Harbour.

He is third-generation graduate and supporter of Georgia Tech and also served on the board of Agnes Scott College, his mother’s alma mater and the most innovative liberal arts college in America according to U.S. News & World Report.

John continues to support Immokalee Fair Housing Association through the Family Foundation, and he spreads the word of our cause to his friends and acquaintances. Thank the Lord for John Smith and others like him!
