Donor Spotlight: Danny Gonzalez
Danny Gonzalez tells everyone, “The Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance is the best thing to happen in Immokalee in a long, long time.”
Danny is a successful restaurateur and owner of Lozano’s Mexican Restaurant in Immokalee. He also serves as Chairman of the Immokalee Eastern Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he was instrumental in expanding the Chamber to include Ave Maria and Golden Gate communities.
Growing up working in the fields with his family, Danny has a deep understanding of the plight of migrants. Danny and his family picked tomatoes and cucumbers in Alabama, tomatoes in Missouri and Virginia, watermelon and tomatoes in Georgia, vine-ripened tomatoes in Tennessee, and tomatoes that would become ketchup in Indiana. And 47 years ago, when Danny was 10 years old, he and his family lived in one of the trailers the Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance is working to replace.
“The Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance is doing something that’s never been done before, and the location near stores and other businesses is ideal,” says Danny, “And the rent will be less than half what people are paying now!”
The Immokalee Eastern Chamber of Commerce is already receiving calls from families that hope to qualify for our safe, affordable housing. Thanks for your support and for spreading the word, Danny!
